Leg 19 Day 319 Tuesday 13th Feb Sons to Chitre Panama 244 km

Last night we went to our little town’s Carnival, but we were too late, it was only the noise, police and a few hawkers closing their stall down.

I f you look to the right of the stage you will see big tanker Truck. Every town we passed yesterday and today had several tanker trucks lining the main road or little church square, but the police had closed off every towns main road and we were re-routed past the back of the trucks, I could not figure out why there were trucks????????… Read More

Leg 19 Day 320 Wednesday 14th Feb Chitre to Panama City 273km

Last night we asked the owner of our little hostel where we could eat, he said that the festivities were only ending at 2h00 so we should walk up the road to the Square and find a place to eat there. Our Hostel was one block away from the action where the Carnaval was taking place. I had walked earlier in the afternoon to go and buy some water and there was a stream of people leaving the square, they walked 8 abreast and blew their whistles and danced their way home, according to me the party ended at 17h00.… Read More

Leg 19 Day 322 Friday 16th Feb Panama City to Bogota (800km by Plane) Hotel to Cargo Terminal 32km

I have always known that when you need to make an omelette you will have to break some eggs, so I knew that traveling around the world would have some sections or days that has too be done but is not part of the fun-days or “Lekker dinge” as we say in Afrikaans, my mother language. I have been dreading today the most of everything, today was breaking eggs for the omelette, I knew all along it would come and I knew it would be painful.… Read More

Leg 19 Day 323 Saturday 17th Feb Rest Day Bogota Colombia 0km

Correction: In yesterday’s Blog I said Bogota was at 1600m, but I was wrong, it is at 2600m high and lots of people have a mild case of Altitude Sickness when arriving in Bogota.

This morning we tried our best to extend our stay but the Holiday Inn Express was fully booked for tonight and Sunday night, and I am going to miss their beds, and hot water, and breakfast, and fast Wi-Fi, instead, we just checked into our $25 rooms, two per room, making it $12-50 per person, so I probably can’t expect to sleep as well as I did last night.… Read More

Leg 19 Day 324 Sunday 18th Feb. 2nd Rest Day – Bogota 0km

I must be physic !!!!!!!! Like a Clairvoyant, I knew last night that $12-50 per person sounds too good to be true. But our Half-Swiss-Half-Portugese-Half-Spanish-Speaking member was assigned with inspecting last nights rooms, and he was happy with the cleanliness and size of the rooms, so we trusted him, but he had a serious loss of concentration, very un-like him, and missed completely the position of the rooms, all street facing on the 1st floor, plus no air-con, so you could not close the windows, and the noise from the street was deafening throughout the night.… Read More

Leg 19 Day 328 Thur 22nd February Pasto to Ibarra Ecuador 219km

Correction: I said fuel was R40 per litre, I was wrong, its R40 per Gallon, so closer to R10 per litre in Colombia.

Yesterday’s Route on the 10 ran South West and joined the Trans American Highway just below Cali (famous for where the Cali Cartel operated from.)

Last night we went out for dinner, it was a bit of a dud as it was late and most places were getting ready to close the kitchen.… Read More
