Instead of leaving this morning at 7h00 as planned we left at 9h00 as Pie and Tex pulled their “Hostel” door shut when they went for an early morning walk. It is called a hostel as I suspect that if it was called a Hotel it would need a few more amenities than what we had. I don’t mind only having cold water or air-con or a real pillow, but the toilet was placed on a step between the shower and basin and when I went to the toilet during the night I had forgotten about this step-up to the throne in the dark and fell forward almost chipping a tooth on the toilet, luckily my mouth missed the edge of the bowl, but sadly I hit my neck on the bowl, which meant my face went right into the inside of the toilet, but luckily my face did not hit the water in the bowl.

As we booked the rooms at the bar, and as the bar only opens at 11h00, we decided to go for breakfast and coffee and wait until we could get the spare key. Turns out that the key they were using were already the cleaners spare key, so the lock was taken apart and we fiddled for half an hour breaking into the room. While we waited we watched the art-sellers setting up for the day, with their Reggae Music blasting away.

The road was great and we cruised along next to the beach at 90km per hour, loving the view and the curving road through coastal forests and plenty of Banana and Paw-paw trees growing along the side of the road. I thought it was going to be a short day as we did not have too far to go, but that is always a mistake as the road got smaller and smaller the closer we got to Drake Bay which is at the entrance to the  Corcovado National Park, which is a Rain Forest.

The road got really small with 70km to go, but with 28km to go it became a good gravel road a 1st, but it got worse and worse. I knew my tyre pressure was way to hard, over 3,5 Bar on the front tyre, but I figured I would just ride a little slower and did not want to waste time to deflate the tyres and then in a few days time inflate them. I paid the price as I battled to stop to take the turn-off and instead of just over-shooting it I turned on the edge of the road, with suddenly lots of stones and soft sand, my nemesis, and to great amusement to my friends dropped the bike. I was not allowed to get up until a camera arrived.

We eventually got to Drake Bay at lunchtime. We ordered some fish and had a few beers overlooking the beautiful bay where every few minutes a boat would reverse in and drop off some people returning from their tour or people being transferred from or to their hotels.

I found us a nice lodge and confirmed that we would be collected by boat. But then Milsy head that we could take a taxi should we prefer. So immediately everyone decided that if a 4×4 taxi could reach our lodge we could as well. I don’t have any photos of the road as I was too busy screaming and fearing for my life. We had to go up and down very steep inclines on very bad gravel and rocky road. And then we got lost and it turned out to be a very testing 10km to the Lodge.

Being this far from civilisation the wi-fi is almost non-existent and doing this Blog is almost as testing as todays 28 plus 10 Kilometres, so I will post the other photos in a few days time when we are back near better Wi-Fi.

Tonights Sun Set from up on our little hill we concurred today made all the sweat and tears of today worth-while.
