Day 363 3rd of April Salta to Cafayate 202km

Last night we went out to a Fancy Steak House to try the world famous Argentinian Beef. It was the best steak all us us had ever had, and we could not finish it, (we did get our order wrong as for the 7 of us we ordered two Toma Hawk steaks and two x 600grm Prime Rib.

After dinner Gorge said he was going out to experience the Night Life, that was the last we saw of him, he did not come to say goodbye at Breakfast (our routes goes in different directions today.) So I guess he had a very successful night out.

We just bought Peanuts as our after dinner treat:

Peens never send me photos, he in usually just our Main Navigator (and Kronkel paadtjie finder,) he finds twisty roads. And also in charge of finding us the right hotel in each place we sleep over. He is VERY Good, with just by looking at the town’s lay-out (on the GPS) looking where the Town’s main Plaza is or finding something next to the river or the lake. Well today he sent me photos and video’s, so I have to post these photos from him:

He took this photo of me and DadAss:

Last night things started going wrong for me, I ate too much Steak for dinner, and at 3h00 I woke up, not feeling well, I was nauseous and had hot and cold sweats. I drank some more water from the tap and climbed back into bed, hoping to fall asleep again. But Peens was busy giving me (and the other rooms around our room,) a Master Class in how to take Snoring to the next level. I stood up again and put some ear-plugs in my ears, but they were no match for Peens’s Star Performance, so I rolled around until it was time to go to breakfast. I had a coffee and some fruit.

We left the hotel at 9h00 (gets  light very late here,) but it took us an hour to fill with fuel and put the last Traffic Light behind us, lots of crazy bus drivers racing at full speed, hitting gaps in the traffic that would make a Moto GP Rider proud.

We continued at 1400m and were riding on a small road through Mile Fields and Soya Crops before we stopped for more coffee. The guys had also worked out we will finish this Leg 2 days early, (thanks to Bolivia not wanting us,) so we were trying to change our tickets, and pay for the change, but my flight change was very expensive so I decided to stay on in Mendoza for the extra two days.

I was feeling depressed as I could not leave sooner and was going to be stuck with Pie and Peens. But I was feeling much worse. I was convinced I had a stomach bug or something as I shocked the people at the Stop and Go when I ripped by helmet off and gave them a show of Projectile Vomiting. At the little Coffee Shop it was Pie’s turn to witness my newly found skill, but as he was in the toilette had to hear my suffering in the Urinal.

I collapsed on the pavement and waited for all the flights to be changed and paid for.

Pie must have chatted to the group as our day’s end destination was moved closer. So I said cheers to them and continued on my own, surely they will catch me as the road was so boring.

So they stopped often and I think I only took two photos today, as the scenery changed dramatically as we did a slow climb to 1500m following the river uphill through the gorge.

There were lots of local holiday makers riding bicycles, hiking and mountaineering. The KTM Guys though it was a good idea to climb ups the Devils Hole wearing riding boots.

There were lots of little eateries next to the road where onecould get a coke and Empanadas, like a little meat pie.

I pushed on and arrived in the town at lunch time. I then lay on the steps of a Dress Maker until she had a customer, and then the guys had not arrived yet so I went in search for our nights Accommodation, at a little Hostel, run by mom and daughter and none could speak any English, but I paid for the rooms (they were so cheap we each took our own room tonight,) and  collapsed on my bed. I slept for a while until the guys arrived and then after showing them their rooms I went back to bed.

My lovely wife packed me a Medical Kit which I raided several times, but now sitting here after sleeping for 2 hours doing the Blog I am still not feeling well. I thought the Tree Spider Bites which did not go hard in the middle and does not look like it is festering, it is also not hot, but it did spread out and are now bigger than the size of my palm is not too blame for the Headaches and Fever.

I  blame the water, and the steak, and the red-wine we drank, but it was very expensive wine, so we did not drink very much, or maybe the Red Peppers and Garlic the cooked the Carrots in????

Our little hostel has flowers in pots throughout the whole house, and it has safe parking for the bikes, and good Wi-Fi.

This is a small little desert-like town, but I saw some Vinyards as we rode in. Peens has found a Town Square and I am sure the guys will have a great evening, but for me, I am off to my cot.

Lekker Slaap
