Leg 17 – Utah

9th of August to 26th of August, 2022.

Tuesday 9th August : Cheap & Nasty Flights = Long Traveling Time

Happy Woman’s Day to  all the formidable women in my life!!!!!!!

When Covid struck our flights for Leg 16 were already paid for and booked, so we were issued Vouchers, which we could not use when Leg 16 actually happened in May this year, but we now used them and were unable to up-grade them for better seats. And since Covid ended everybody and his dog now wants to travel which resulted in Heathrow Airport simply telling airlines that they can only cope with 100 000 travelers per day, so flights got canceled and this resulted in our total traveling time from JHB to Denver (via Heathrow London)  became 34 hours, so here we are,  waiting for our connecting flight.… Read More

It was a Long day, almost 11 Hours on the road, but it was a very good day.

Last night we went back to town and looked for a place to eat, but the places were packed as the town was fully booked,  this weekend there is a very famous Mountain Bike Race of over 160km, done in one go, some take 24 hours to finish as you climb 14 000 Feet, 4 600m up a mountain and then down again.… Read More

Day 283 Sat 13th Aug Play Day In Moab + Arches National Park 183km

The Springboks might have had a Shitty day, but ours is turning out to be rather spectacular. We took the panniers and Tank Bags off 4 of the bikes this morning and then we went to the Side By Side Rental Agency where Andy Boy and his Dad rented one SBS (Side By Side) and Tex and Uncle Bob rented a 2nd, the rest of us took our bikes and then we set off into the mountains to play.… Read More

Day 285 Monday 15th Aug Hotel to Land Cruiser Museum, Lunch Restaurant, Hotel, Dinner Hotel 142km

Last night we had dinner at Tex’s daughter and her family, she has two toddlers. This is the elder daughter,  ( on the last leg we met the youngest daughter, the wine maker, in Napa Valley.)  Her husband is a super cool guy, we all drooled over his garage, (several toys we also love and bicycles, even a Vespa Scooter.)

This morning it was off to the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum.… Read More

Day 287 Wed. 17th Aug Vernal to Walden 498km

The Dinosaur National Monument only opened at 9h00, so we had time to kill as some of the old men in this group wakes up at 5h00, so they except everyone to be up an about by 6h00. We decided to take a ride to Moon Shine Arch (yes, lets see more Arches.) The little gravel road woke me up very quickly when I did some spectacular slides in the soft sand, luckily I managed to save myself and save-face.… Read More

Day 288 Thursday 18th Aug Walden to Alliance 496km

Today the wheels came off, big time, but just for me, the rest had a great day. My bad day can  be traced back to yesterday, when the group split into 2 after visiting the Auto Museum. Pie had still not had enough after the museum and went to see where the old cars were being restored, Milsy and Tex went with him and the rest of us continued to Walden, and that ladies and gentlemen was the first decision made in a litany of  bad decisions that followed, that was responsible for my wheels to come off today.… Read More
