Day 300 Saturday 6 May Red Ranch to Farmers Market and Back 19km

Tonight is the big party, and fitting, we are celebrating that our trip has now been going on for 300 Days.

This morning we went walking with Tex looking at all his cattle and building projects, and of course some toys. When we visited the Ranch in 2017 the main Farm House, built by Red Adare, (he became famous for putting out all the Oil-Well-Fires in Kuwait back in the 80’s,) was still standing but it has now been demolished as the termites took over, and a new Farm House is being planned, but in the mean time hay-loft above the Stables were converted into three bedroom accommodation.

After our walking tour we did a driving tour and visited more farms, I am amazed with how much Energy Tex has, he is 12 years older than I but apart from all the projects on the Ranch, he still is expanding his business and we learnt about several other projects he is doing, I now understand why he is not joining us on Leg 18.

After our tours we rode into town to fill-up the bikes and have brunch and walked around at the Farmers Market where the community was selling the normal things like Jams and Clothing and Pickles etc. but you can also buy home-made-ammunition.

And then I saw a Drive Through Bank, “since my Life I never seen this.” You drive up to a teller, do your banking and drive away.

Bellville is a lovely little town, it has an “arty” feel to it and I can see why Tex loves it so much here and why this is going to become his main house.

Tomorrow we have to leave at 1st light as we have 600km to the Mexican Border, then a Border Crossing and into the 1st Town where we will meet our new Riding Buddies. There will be some Paperwork to do as we need to get permits, insurance and we have to report to the local police station. Then on Monday we have another long day of over 700km, and only from Tuesday will we be doing shorter 350km days. So tonight we better not “go-big” at the party.

If I get time tomorrow, and the Wi-fi is good I will include a few photos of tonights Fund Raiser.

Cheers

Fleisch
