Finally, on the very last Leg of our little KTM World Tour I got the packing right, I left everything at the bike (after I had it washed,) and made proper notes this time of what I need to take. Two new Hand Guard Protectors, Foot Powder and Nail Clippers. That, plus my toiletries and a warm sweater, all the chargers and my computer and spare phone is all I need to take. The bigger problem is how I get everything back to South Africa after this trip. Apart from all the clothing that is in the panniers I will also have to bring back my Helmet, Boots and Riding Pants and Jacket. I can see a Taxi Bag being my Checked Luggage for the return flight.
It is Stands Up next Tuesday, the 3rd of February. The timing for this trip could not be worse, we only got back from Leg 22 at the end of November. Then December is a waste (work wise, and routines wise,) as it is Summer Holiday and Christmas, then we just had a few days in January and now it is already off back to the bikes. The time was very short between trips. Jose, the guy in El Calafate where the bikes are being stored also has a Motorbike Workshop and he did manage to do my two Front Forks.
The new tyres ordered for some of the bikes only arrived late last week, the guys were nervous because uf they dud nit arrive in time it would have been a crisis as South African Airways won’t allow you to fly with Tyres, so we would have had to hope there would be something suitable in Chile at Punta Arenas.
We are only about 850km from Ushuaia, so the plan is to continue South, then cross over into Chile, do more gravel until we cross back into Argentina, and then hope the weather is favorable to reach our Turn Around Point, eat some seafood, do a Tourist thing, (go on a Day Trip somewhere,) and then head North, back the way we came for one day before turning slightly East and then follow the East coast of Argentina up towards Buenos Aires where we will catch a ferry to Uruguay where Leg 23 will end.
So I hope you are ready for some more Adventure with us.
