Finally, on the very last Leg of our little KTM World Tour I got the packing right, I left everything at the bike (after I had it washed,) and made proper notes this time of what I need to take. Two new Hand Guard Protectors, Foot Powder and Nail Clippers. That, plus my toiletries and a warm sweater, all the chargers and my computer and spare phone is all I need to take.… Read More

South America Part 4 – Argentina

The guys with the most technical skills always flies a few days before the rest of us. They hate paying a Machanic to do work on their bikes if they know they could do it themselves. I am lucky, I dont have those skills, so I pay people to work on DadAss, but Pie and Peens were the 1st to arrive in South America and are busy working on their bikes as I am sitting in the Airport Lounge writing this.… Read More
Eventually we are all here, I left my house on Sunday at 12h00 and arrived here in El Calafate at 16h00 Monday, by I had to turn my watch back 5 hours, so I arrived at 21h00 South African time. I did have a 6 hour lay-over in Sao Paulo, just enough time for a shower and a few hours horizontal in the airport hotel.… Read More
Yesterday I said we would head for Puerto Arenas today, well, all the Puerto’s had me confused, today was Puerto Natales, tomorrow is Puerto Arenas. Today is the 2nd day that I have to apologies for giving you the wrong information, once again we are not in Punto Arenas, but this time I can blame it all on the weather. We always have one eye on the Weather Apps, and these Apps are telling us that the weather window we have hoped for is closing due to a “Front” moving in from Antartica, which is only 1000km away.… Read More
Last night after all 7 bikes got new Brake Fluid, on the pavement, the guys sat in the reception of out little Gran Hotel (definitely not that the D fell off from the name sign as nothing was GranD, except the floor tiles which were very shiny and slippery, and ate some Biltong and drank a whisky each while I was finishing off the Blog.… Read More
Last night we took a Taxi back into the “Centro” of Ushuaia. Peens chose a restaurant, Isabellas, all the food were stews served in big pans. We ordered only 3 Pans and at the end of the meal there were still a few potatos, bones and sauce left in each pan. I told the guys that my mother taught me not to waste any food.… Read More
Yesterday I found a grocery store and bought some snack-like-things, plus some cheese & biscuits and salami, so we sat in our room and had our traditional Oros “Dinner” and talked a lot of long stories. When Pie, who was stretched out on the floor since the cheese ran out, started snoring too much we called it a night and went to bed.… Read More
As we blew our budget yesterday sucking crab, we decided to have another Oros Dinner last night which we made in the foyer of our Gran? Hotel, to the horror of the poor lady working at reception. I smoothed things over with her by giving her a little wire animal from Africa and then asking her for a broom and mop, (so she new we were planning on cleaning up after us, and then I asked for glasses, knives, cutting-board and plates, mayonnaise, salt pepper, serviettes etc.)… Read More
Last night we went to an Italian Restaurant, I had noticed signs next to the road advertising “Milanese or Milanesa” written outside some restaurants. So last night I saw in the Spanish menu they have a section for Pasta, another for Pizza, and then two pages for Milanese. I asked the waiter who tried to explain it is very popular here in Argentina and is basically a Schnitzel and then you have many many options of different sauces and toppings to go on the Schnitzel.… Read More
