Less than a month before Leg 21 starts

We are in the final stretch before the next Leg. I have submitted the final document for my Bolivian Visa and now I must just wait. I was not planning on traveling through Bolivia, there are several political protests happening there as they are having elections there in October and their previous President Juan Eva Morales is planning to make a come-back.… Read More

Packing, for 2 Back-to-Back trips = Chaos

This weekend is the DJ Rally (Durban to Johannesburg) with the old pre 1937 Bikes, so the bikes has to be from 1936 or older. Nora (my 1936 Norton) is ready even though she has not left my Patio since she finished the rally last year, but she has started 4 times now, so I believe she is ready.

It is only Pie and I from our group that will be riding the DJ Rally this year, the others has decided to go early and go to the Argentinian Moto GP this weekend, we will all meet in Lima on Monday.… Read More

Monday 17 March Johannesburg, via San Paulo (Brazil) Lima (Peru)

It was a long and hard slog to get here in Lima Peru. More so for Pie and I as we had the Prize Giving Breakfast for the DJ Rally on Sunday morning, and we had to be at the airport at 12h20 on Sunday. The DJ Rally was on Friday and Saturday, which means we had to drive to Durban on Thursday already, and since Thursday it has just been running and riding old bikes in the Rally, (1936 and older) very little sleep and long days in the saddle.… Read More

Tuesday 18th March ; City of Lima (Customs Office, Shops, Restaurant, Oros-Sundowners)

This morning we all had breakfast together at the hotel and then we went to meet Eduardo our fixer at the entrance to the hotel.

I sat there looking at the traffic rushing by, many many  busses of different size, people on scooters, and skateboards and motorbikes riding on the pavement, pedestrians and cyclists weaving past each others on the pavement, bus conductors hanging out the doors of the busses blowing whistles and blowing their sirens, chaos.… Read More

This morning we took taxis to KTM and started attaching our panniers, packing our bikes, sorting out our Riding Gear and just preparing the bikes. Day 349 Thursday 20 March Huacachina to Puquio 321km

Last night we went for a walk around the little lake at the centre of the Oasis and found a restaurant and had dinner. There is lots of Back Packers and young kids that comes here. It feels similar to Cappadocia in Turkey, but this oasis has far less to offer and is much much smaller.

This morning some of us went and climbed the dune, some overslept and some tried to sort out their lives and re-pack their bikes, bags etc.… Read More

Day 350 Friday 21 March Puquio to Abancay 326km (Peru)

Last night we parked in the Hotel Reception, we were not the 1st Bikers to stay at this hotel as the Receptionist had little rubber mats that she handed out for each of us to put under our Side Stand so that we did not scratch the shiny tiles.

Then we went “Out On The Town” and found the little Town Square and a very brightly lit Eat House, I can’t call the places we eat Restaurants, they are places where the locals eat.… Read More

Lots of dancing before the train leaves

Today was a day of School Fees and Chaos. Pie and Tex took it on them to book our train tickets to the main Inca Attraction,  1,5 hours away by train. But either they did not ask all the right questions or the Train Ticket Salesperson did not give them any info, but here we are, stuck without tickets into the  Site, even no bus tickets to the Site.… Read More
