Day 267 Thur 21April Astoria to Winston 460km

Astoria was a very pretty little Fishing Port  situated on the massive Columbia River, about 50km from where it mouths into the sea. There is going to be a Crab & Wine festival there this weekend and some people arrived early, so we battled to find accommodation but eventually got the last 4 Twin rooms at The Comfort Inn, (the Breakfast was better this morning, at least there was some bacon shavings instead of burger patties.)… Read More

Day 268 Friday 22nd April, Winston to Burney’s 552km

Last night I saw a game being played in the pub where we stayed, its called “Shuffle Board.” Its similar to Bowls but each player has 4 discs that he slides down a table that has been dusted with silicon and “Walnut-dust” and the idea is to get the disc as close to the edge on the other side, the closer to the edge the more it counts, your opponent can also crash into you sending you off the edge:

The two “Touristy” things we were going to do today were epic fails, first we ran out of road on the way to Crater Lake, and then the view of the highest Peak in California (yes we crossed over into the big C,)  was covered in clouds and it looked like a little hill with snow on and low clouds.… Read More

Day 270 Sun. 24th April Santa Rosa to Grovelands via SF 334km

Yesterday we were spoilt by Tex’s lovely daughter at her home and we tasted all the wine she made under her Lable:

Her Boyfriend is also a wine maker and we tasted some of his wine, and then we were given a taste sensation with more local wine from the valley and something to snack on.

Then came the big spoil, they did a Braai for us, but used a new cut of meat, called :Hanger Steak, (Lies Steak in Afrikaans.)… Read More

More Photos of Today

Above is our little hotel for the night.

Below is the Electric Charging Station for Tesla Cars. We are just over 200km from SF and Electric Cars are big. Up to now I have only seen 4 Porches, and two were electric. I have never even seen one in RSA. We saw several Electric Mustangs and Lexus is very big here in California.… Read More

Day 272, Tuesday 26th April, Yosemite to Kernville 441km

Danny-Boy was on the bike today, but we hear from his dad he sleeps with a little Soft Toy he bought himself so that everyone on the trip can think he has a girlfriend that bought it for him, so today the toy rode with him. But in his defense, he did not put it on the bike, we helped his dad put it there so that Danny-Boy could feel loved,

We did not want to do the big U-Shape ride on the main roads to get back on track after we were forced to take the South Exit from the park due to the roads being snowed-in and still closed after the winter, so we, in our wisdom, thought it would be very clever to just  curt across the top of the U, but there was no major road running East, so we had to Zig-Zag from one little town to the next small dorpie.… Read More

Day 273 Wednesday 27th April, Kernville to Las Vegas via Death Valley 545km

We made it to Las Vegas, we are meeting at the Pool Bar at 19h00, I need to push to get this Blog out before then.

I now hear all my friends are sleeping (except Peens who went looking for them, even the young Danny Boy is resting.) So they will be strong tonight, me not so much as I am dedicated to all of you, so here it goes:

Last night already we started celebrating Rockies Birthday.… Read More
